Since, 2015 over 100 students from 4 high school have visited Kozroots Herb and Garlic Farm in partnership with Be The Boss Day, a project of Cornwall and The Counties Community Futures Development Corporation. The farm visits facilitated by Kozroots Community Empowerment Projects have been an opportunity for youth to learn about growing their own food and to consider agri-food as a business for themselves in the future.
With partners including: Growing Up Organic, GIAG, TR Leger, St. Matthew High School, Char-Lan District High School and All Things Food we have sparked an interest in youth about local agri-food and garlic production.
At present we are working with local crop farmers to increase garlic production . Our ultimate goal is to be part of making garlic a product of Canada one day. With the trend in local food and youth driven programs supported by the Student Summer Job Grants and other funding we hope to create ongoing farm experiences for youth in the coming years.
Farmers with the capacity to have student visits, or interns can contact us to learn how we can collaborate, as can interested schools in Eastern Ontario. At present we are working on a series of farm to fork experiential learning series in Renfrew County.

We look forward to offering more farm day experiences to students in 2018. Please contact us for more information.
